Why aren't they more common in environments where water is plentiful?

They are more common in dry environments because that is where their special cells are needed. In places with a lot of water they don't have to have the special cells because they dont have to worry about transpiration. They are needed in places where there is little water and the sun is feisty bc thats where their mechanisms work best
