Lee Harvey Oswald shot JFK. Why do so many conspiracy theories still exist?

I am old and remember those days. I believe there is something to the conspiracy of multiple shooters because of the amount of shots hitting JFK in that short of time. That old bolt action was a piece of c*ap, owned one.
