A couple balloon boy Falcon Heene questions.?

From what I understand, the family put an edited version of the lift-off on YouTube. The police were able to get the unedited tape but I don't know how they were able to obtain it. The balloon had a 5 gallon bucket inside it but that's all I've been able to recognize on TV reports.
